Jenitha John

Jenitha John is the past Chair of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global Board of Directors (2020-21). She is an experienced executive with more than 28 years of corporate experience in diverse industries traversing the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. Being a Chartered accountant, a Chartered Director, a Certified Internal Auditor (with the coveted Quality in Internal Audit leadership certificate) and a Harvard Alumni bears testimony to her being fully versed on issues facing the corporate world and through her experiences, she developed much insight on corporate governance, strategic, financial and operational matters faced by organizations.

She is an experienced Chief Audit Executive and has held various financial and audit related roles at large companies in corporate South Africa. Before becoming Chairman of The IIA Global Board, her volunteer roles included serving as the Global Board’s Senior Vice Chair (2019- 20), as well as serving on the IPPF Relook Task Force, Committee of Research and Education Advisors, Financial Services Guidance Committee, and on the Global Board’s Executive Committee as 2018-19 Vice Chairman-Professional Certifications, and 2017-18 Vice Chairman-Professional Practices. She also led the global task force on the updated Three Lines Model (formerly Three Lines of Defense).

Recognized as “South Africa’s Internal Auditor of the Year” in 2014, Jenitha has addressed conferences around the globe on a wide array of topics, such as internal audit’s role in governance, combined assurance, women in leadership, the impact of AI and robotics on industries, emerging issues in the financial services industry, ESG and Sustainability Assurance. In addition, Jenitha actively participates in mentoring circles, panel discussions, and networking sessions throughout the world, and strongly believes in developing young minds. She has served on professional body governance committees, produced papers on various industry/governance topics. She has also delivered lectures at South African business schools on Board Leadership programs and trained aspirant CIA’s for the CIA exams.
