Monica Merrifield

Monica Merrifield is the Senior Director of Strategic Risk & Resilience at March of Dimes Canada, a leading national charity committed to championing equity and empowering ability for people with disabilities nationwide. Monica was also Vice President of Risk Intelligence for YMCA of Greater Toronto, where she pioneered the first strategic and enterprise risk management program in Canada’s social sector, and she led Enterprise Risk & Compliance for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Monica has served as Chair for the Global Risk Society (RIMS) Strategic & Enterprise Risk Council, as Vice Chair for RIMS DEI Council, and currently she serves on the ESG Exchange Technical Committee, and Deloitte Canada ERM Roundtable, as well as PRMIA (Professional Risk Managers International Association) Steering Committee.

A published author, Monica’s research work examines the risk and strategy interplay, and how risk linking with inclusion and sustainability builds a problem-solving culture more capable of productive change. Her strategic risk and resilience work abroad includes in the USA, Italy, Mexico, and Colombia. Monica is the first Canadian to receive the Global ERM Award of Distinction from RIMS, and the Risk Innovator Award from Risk & Insurance Magazine, and she received a Governance Award Honourable Mention for Risk & Control Systems from the Conference Board of Canada. Monica achieved her ESG.D Designation from Rotman School of Business, a Green Belt Lean Six Sigma Designation, CRM Risk Management Designation, and B.A. (Hon) Degree from University of Toronto. Monica has also obtained Business Model Design, Strategic Alignment, and Innovation certifications from Schulich/York University.
